Stay at Hideout At Flitner (Dude) Ranch, Shell, Wyoming

The Hideout is an upscale riding, horsemanship and working cattle guest ranch. We are located in Shell, Wyoming - East of Cody and Yellowstone National Park. "While we do offer other activities like excellent fly-fishing, 4x4 scenic mountain tours, hiking, biking and take pride in a well groomed shooting range, most of our guests come to indulge in horseback riding and cattle work. We are a Riding Guest Ranch, which means that all levels of riders will feel at home. Guest who would like to learn how to ride will find patient and professional trainers and great horses to learn the proper way. Advanced riders will find experienced riding guides and a separate string of fine tuned AH horses. We will always do our best to help non-riding partners on the horse using our low stress Authentic Horsemanship (AH) methods to build confidence. Our trainers give AH Horsemanship clinics on a regular basis and, during the off-season, we operate as a horse training center for third party horse owners. Needless to say that aside superb trail riding, with The Hideout and The Flitner Ranch covering approximately 250,000 acres in a rarely seen diversity of scenery and approximately 1,200 heads of Black Angus, their calves and yearlings, there is plenty of cattle work and cattle drives to do. Our cattle-work is the real deal. The cattle-work and drives you participate in on a weekly basis are much needed to keep the ranch operation going. We will teach you how this work is done properly using the Bud Williams stockmanship concept of low stress handling of life stock. Whatever activity we do with our guests we believe teaching you how we handle our stock in a low stress manner. At The Hideout Guest Ranch we strive to offer excellence in hospitality, lodging and culinary pampering. Usually we accommodate 15 to 25 guests a week, which allows us to keep it personal, authentic and as customized as possible. Many guests come back each year for our staff. We hire using The 3 C’s of Character, Conduct and Competence and invest in the training of our staff. Our experience is more focused towards adults and families with older children, who have some equestrian experience or are in good physical condition. We believe that part of a family vacation involves parents and children participating in, enjoying and sharing the same experiences. With exception of July and August, The Hideout is mostly adult oriented. We do not offer the traditional "kids program". We strive to treat children as young adults and to offer them the full Hideout Guest Ranch experience."
