American River, California
View Original Description
The American River runs from the crest of the Sierra Nevada mountain range near Lake Tahoe to its confluence with the Sacramento River in Sacramento, California. The Sacramento River continues to eventually empty into the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean at San Francisco, California. The river is divided into the North, Middle, and South forks.
The South Fork is a good river for the entire family.
The Middle Fork is good for aggressive first-timers. This section of the river has the exciting “Big Drops”, the Middle Fork's Tunnel Chute Rapid is a one of a kind experience.
The North Fork American features almost continuous technical class III - V whitewater rapids and is one of the most scenic rivers in California. This is a challenging run recommended for those with prior rafting experience.
Each fork of the river has different seasons:
South Fork: April - September
Middle Fork: May - September
North Fork: April to May/June (depending on snow pack)
